Sustainability Training & Recognition
Sustainable September Our Sustainable September campaign ran for its third consecutive year in 2025. Drawing over 25,000 participants from across our portfolio, 2025 represents our greatest level of engagement to date and reflects the growing value of the campaign. Sustainable September is designed to engage residents, team members, and onsite staff in environmental stewardship, focusing on small, actionable changes that create a large impact across the global portfolio. By the end of the campaign, property managers are equipped with the knowledge and confidence to select sustainable, cost-effective options that support environmental efficiency across their communities. This year’s theme, Sustainable Swaps, was designed to help onsite teams make better everyday decisions, from lighting to landscaping. The course highlighted how small, routine upgrades can lower utility costs, improve operations, and reduce resource consumption.
Sustainability Onsite In late 2025, we launched Sustainability Onsite, a short-form video series designed to highlight how sustainability is being put into practice across our communities. Featuring real team members, the series aims to make sustainability more tangible by sharing practical examples of operational improvements, resident support, and resource efficiency efforts. The first videos were filmed and released at the end of 2025, with the goal of releasing one story each month through 2026. Early engagement has been strong, with many videos receiving 300–400 views, indicating interest from teams across the business. Over time, the hope is that Sustainability Onsite evolves into a broader platform for sharing best practices across regions and supporting peer learning.
Spotlight: Greystar Green Awards 2025 built on the success of our inaugural internal Green Awards program, supporting our sustainability commitments while recognizing and celebrating the communities and the property management teams that make progress happen. In 2025, we received around 60 submissions across our two award categories, “Most Improved” and “Most Sustainable.” Most Sustainable Winners Winners included standout efforts across Minnesota, Missouri, and the Pacific Northwest. These properties were recognized for improved recycling and signage, energy reduction initiatives, and securing an EV charger grant. Most Improved Winners Winning properties across Michigan, Kentucky, and Texas were highlighted in the Most Improved category for making meaningful strides to improve performance through LED lighting upgrades, water saving measures, smart thermostats that reduce energy use, and broader energy efficiency retrofits. This year’s Green Awards winners showcase that efforts ranging from small enhancements to capital-intensive projects can make a positive impact. In 2026, we plan on expanding awareness of the program and are targeting 100 submissions, with a broader pool hopefully allowing us to identify and share further property-level progress.
